S. Potomac 2nd Alarm Commercial Structure Fire
Just after 6 a.m. on Thursday, November 9th, SMFR received multiple 911 calls reporting smoke and visible flames coming from the top of a building on S. Potomac Street in Centennial. While en route, members observed a large column of smoke and upgraded the incident to a 2nd alarm. Once on scene, crews encountered a secure facility and were required to force gates open to gain access. Heavy smoke and fire were coming from a large generator housed in an unattached building. Members from Tower 35 and 45 used their aerials to control the fire from above and members of the HazMat Team were requested when numerous NFPA hazardous material placards were seen. After mitigating the hazardous materials risk, members were able to complete the extinguishment of the fire. The cause of the fire was investigated by the SMFR Fire Marshal’s Office and determined to be caused by equipment failure.
