Fremont Ave. Second Alarm Multi Family Structure Fire
Just after 3:30 p.m. on Friday, June 2, 2023, numerous 911 callers reported smoke billowing from the roof a building at Glenn Oaks, located 2301 E. Fremont Ave. in Centennial. A plume of smoke was already visible as members responded, and additional resources were dispatched. ACSO Deputies were first to arrive and start evacuating residents. When members from Engine 37 arrived a short time later, flames had already burned through the roof. Multiple crews deployed hose lines to battle the fast-moving attic fire and search for occupants inside. A 2nd Alarm was transmitted which brought additional units to the scene and approximately 80 total personnel. Primary searches were completed, and the portions of the roof collapsed, prompting a shift to a defensive strategy in the middle units. An aerial master stream was used to suppress the fire in the collapsed portion of the building while members worked from the interior of neighboring units to prevent the fire from spreading further. An additional collapse of the second floor occurred and the structure was too dangerous for firefighters to enter again. Members worked for several hours extinguishing hot spots and Arapahoe Rescue Patrol, Inc. will remain on scene overnight providing fire watch. Thankfully no injuries occurred, but sadly 8 of the 10 residential units in the building were destroyed or sustained major damage. The American Red Cross, Arapahoe County Victims Assistance and Emergency Management are assisting the displaced residents. The SMFR Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating what caused the fire.
